Types of graphics


Bitmapped Graphics
  • Bitmapped images are made up of tiny dots called pixels
  • Each pixel can be individually edited
  • Bitmapped graphics tend to be large files
  • Common file types are .BMP, .GIF and .JPEG

How can it be modified?
  • Using Cloning Tool / Healing tool / Smuge tool
  • Editing induvidual pixels for example to change the colour of something or deleting.
  • Cropping
  • Adding a border or frames

Vector Graphics
  • Object oriented graphics are made up of a series of shapes
  • Also known as Object Oriented graphics
  • Store various attributes e.g. location, colour, size, fill style, line style
  • File sizes are smaller than bitmaps

How can it be modified?

  • Changing opacity
  • Adding more curves to altering lines to alter the shape
  • Crop
  • Alter the texture




Task 1

Using a graphics program create your favourite characters from games you like. This would obviously be a 2D character however you might want to try converting a 3D character into a 2D character.

Task 3

Use a digital camera and take pictures of yourself or others in your class. This can either be of a head shot or perhaps of you posing. Put these into a graphics program and start to create game characters drawing over them.
